Does Maafia Books still operate in Hackney?
Hello Kwame
Sadly Maarifa Bookshop which use to be located on Bradbury Street Dalston, is no more around.
I need to update the Black Bookshop/Publishers Page.
Hi
Love this site and believe it is totally necessary but I’ve clicked on some of your publilshers only to find that the site has moved or it is simply not there. Are you planning to update your blogroll, as it is so difficutl to find black publishers in the UK. Many thanks and keep up the good work!
Hi Plaintain 1
I will definitely be updating the blogroll,I have been preoccupied a bit lately. Will definitely look into this.
We seem to be losing more of our bookshops in Hackney. The main one and most established was Centerprise which was unfortunatly closed down recently. At one point we had about 5/6 black bookshops within the borough which catered for our community, now we have one holding the fort Muatta Books
New Beacon Books in Stroud Green North London is jammed packed and up to date with the latest. Kizala in Croydon is mix of books, cards etc. It’s really an attractive shop, and it’s been there for some while.
I agree, that as a black book lover, after the defunct Head Start in West Green Road in my native Tottenham, Centreprise was the next best place in getting books plus advise on creative writing, but no more.
I am a young writer searching for a publisher and found this site invaluable, thank you.
I am a self published African writer and I would like to bring to your attention some of the books I have published which include: The Stolen Gift, a Journey to Maleba, Chronicles of a Soldier and Servants of the Underground. Please can you help me reach your audience who might be interested to read the above books in your forum. My books have been reviewed in The Voice and East African magazine.
Looking for a publisher! Written 35 novels and 200 short stories.

We’re putting on a production of Fix Up by Kwame Kwei-Armah at Tower Theatre (N16) in June. This play is set in a Tottenham bookstore dedicated to black history. For the set we need access to a lot of books. Could you recommend anywhere we could hire appropriate books for a two-week run or where we could buy second hand books at a cheap rate?

I am a preschool teacher of 40years in a predominantly white middle England community and have tried for years to bring in a larger variety of children’s books/music , can you help me, I want to get the early years programming more inclusive.
Thank you Gillian .
Hi Gillian If u need help with finding Black childrens books for the preschool children I am in the process if dedicating a page in the blog strictly for Black authors who specialise in childrens books. Some of them self publish as well. Stay tuned.
Peace be upon you. I am Dr. Douglas E. Thomas from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I am college professor and founder of blackpoliticalexodus.com. I gathered hundreds of books from the Langston Hughes Library in New York City several years ago and would love to donate some to you. As you know we are locked downed here in the states as elsewhere around the world. Once the lockdown is lifted—hopefully soon, I could bring some books with me to the UK, which would be less costly than sending them. Please keep my contact and I expect to see you soon.
Peace to you Douglas. Did you get a response to your offer of books?
